If I was a pilot and forced to circle around endlessly waiting for traffic to clear up, you could bet this would be going through my mind!
So we come to the end of the first calender year for Employees Only. I've had a blast, and I hope some of you have enjoyed at least a smile if nothing else. I plan on keeping up the comic, so I'll see you all in 2011 with more nonsense in pen and ink.
Until then - Happy New Year!

Lessons Learned • 2010
So another year has gone by and I find myself looking at the keyboard, trying to sum up just exactly what made this year one to remember. Certainly there was the people I met, the things I did and saw, but as always there are the lessons that come with those adventures, and for me, this is the list I'll take with me into 2011*.
-ic
*Either that or I just made this whole thing up.
Priorities
• Pride is not a commodity - it is a crutch.
• People can fly, carry smart computers smaller than a dollar bill in their pocket, speak with people around the world for free, live better lives than most royalty in history ever has, and still complain about having bad hair.
• Just because Apple, Lucas or Rowling makes something new doesn't mean you need to wait in line for days to be the first one to get it. It is a hell of a lot of fun if you do though. Even better if you can afford it in the case of Apple.
Honesty
• A good friend isn't afraid to be honest enough to tell you when you've screwed up, a bad friend will always tell you nothing but good things, and a best friend knows when to say either, and when to say neither.
• As an example, I used to think my family didn't care what I thought and everyone else thought I was worth listening to, but never took my advice. Now I realize my family at least has the courtesy to tell me I'm not worth listening to to my face.
Art
• "I don't get it" is the worst thing a creator can hear. Art is communication, and if you can't speak clearly you're just talking to yourself.
• ...and don't cop out by claiming only "certain people" can get it. Artists don't choose their fans.
• Just because you have a weird sense of humor doesn't mean you should hide it (see technology).
Career & Work
• Equality, common sense, rational thinking and logic belong in the employee handbook - but good luck finding it in the workplace.
• Working harder only gives others an excuse to ask for even more. Working smarter only gives others an excuse to look for the guys who work harder.
• The harder you try to achieve something specific is the sooner you'll realize there are many more, and sometimes better, options out there.
• Stop trying to be the next whoever, there's already one of them and they're much better at what they do than you are.
Technology
• I've heard people say they feel naked without their phone, but last time I checked there wasn't an app for that. Put some damn pants on.
• Google isn't going to take over the world - it already has. But is that such a bad thing?
• As far as how Google will rule, you can look at how its voice recognition works:
Example: Lesson Learned 1 is - "pride is not a commodity it is the crotch"
So, not that much different than what we're already used to.
• Apple will probably claim they can rule the world better, but then tell us all that things we take for granted like paved roads aren't important because it happens to conflict with their beautiful designs. Then when 2.0 comes out they'll release it with "paved roads" like it was a great idea all the time.
• Also, it will be called "PAVEMNT" because removing letters from words to label things they already describe is very hip right now. If technology ran fast food chains we'd be eating "BURGR's" and "FRIs".
Romance
• If everyone took the advice we read in magazines the world would be a very screwed up, materialistic and self absorbed place...wait a minute...
• The difference between a pretty girl being complimented or being hit on was decided the second you walked into the room.
• If you think they like you, you're probably right. Don't let that stop you from sealing the deal by doing the robot during a rock ballad.
Comics
• If you make them, they will be read. So I probably should get started on the next one...

Playing Catch Up! New Post Tomorrow!
Excuses, excuses...I know.
I'm sorry, but trying to get back to a routine after my Alaska trip has been impossible. I am working on the annual*, Lessons Learned post, but I'll have to put it up tomorrow instead of today I'm afraid.
With any luck after that we'll be up and running on the old Tuesday/Thursday post schedule and I can think of other excuses to be late with the posts! See you tomorrow!

*Yeah, 2009 was a year I didn't really learn anything.

Latest Holiday Card - This Time It's Personal
Once again I have to leave you with a simple image of the stuff I'm working on for today's post.
I've been busting out my own holiday/thank you cards and it's taking up a lot of time, not that I mind though! If you were kind enough to help me out this year with testimonials for my website, or amazing enough to actually hire me to do something, you can expect one of the final versions of the ink drawing you see here.
See you Thursday!

Employees Only - The Christmas Caper • Part 2
The Christmas Caper continues with today's comic, which I've privately titled Milk & Cookies.
There are many details about Santa's life and routines that a person lacking scruples might take advantage of (details no doubt released by the nefarious Wikileaks, which has no shame). I provide the dramatization of possibilities not to frighten you or your children, but to warn you and Santa, who I assume is also an en•Blog reader. You should also note that I personally like Santa and the presents he brings me too much to lace his milk and cookies with roofies, so please refrain from sending me hate mail.
See you next week with the thrilling continuation!

Latest Holiday Card
I have to rush today's post because of unforeseen flat tire complications, but I figured it wouldn't take too long to share my excitement about the latest holiday card commission I've had the pleasure of doing.
Titled, "Hitch'n a Ride" the card is a small tribute to Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes winter cartoons.
Right now there isn't an active link, but when I get back from work I'll update my portfolio and you can see the full image.
Take a look at the full image on my portfolio site!

Photo taken with the Instagram app for iPhone. It's a great photo app that I highly recommend for your tweets and other sharing sites!

Employees Only - The Christmas Caper • Part 1
First of all...sorry for being late.
Part of the reason for my delay in today's comic was that I've been planning a pretty gnarly road trip the great white north. I'm traveling by land, sea and air over the course of a week to deliver a Jeep Liberty to my sis, who now lives on an island I've never even heard of until she told me about it. I imagine that there are hostile countries that are easier to get to than visiting my sister where she now lives...perhaps more safely too!
Small wonder then that I'm tying together this month's Employee Only comics into a small series that I'm shoehorning into a Christmas Special OF EPIC PROPORTIONS. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you part one above...
...stay tuned.
