Ferrets in Space • Episode 1 - The Threat Within

It's 1am and I'm only vaguely aware of how funny this comic possibly is. My apologies in advance for it being funnier in my head twelve hours ago.

Really though, it only needs to be funny to one person, and that's The Mix, who celebrates his birthday today! That's right Mix, I hope you like your birthday comic - it has a ferret massacring rabbits.

As for my non-Mix readers, please accept this massive comic as payment for this entire week. I need the extra time to do my taxes, so I hope you won't mind that Employees Only will continue next week instead!

3/30/11 - I've updated the link so that the image links directly to my portfolio site for anyone who wants to see a larger version. The embedded version should also look a little sharper...sorry about missing that earlier!

Employees Only - Not So Precious After All

Ahh Apple. I'm reasonably sure that I haven't ripped off someone else by making this comic, because I purposely looked around and didn't see it. But the comparison is so damn obvious that I can't believe Employees Only is the first across the finish line with it. At any rate, I'm sure I'm not bruising Steve Job's ego at all with my little web comic. He's probably laughing at it right now as he pushes a button on his desk to have me killed or worse...come out with the iPad3!

In all fairness, yes, I'd like to have an iPad. The thing is cool damn it - but I refuse to stand idly by as the guys at Apple talk about the thing like it's technological sliced bread. I swear every Apple product is given this aura of being designed in the mystical forges of Cupertino, hammered lovingly by Jony Ive. And I do mean every Apple product.

They make socks for their iPods. Socks. Think really hard about that.

Meanwhile I'm keeping my fingers crossed the prices come down on the original iPad, cause Ian wants to play Tiny Wings.

Pig Post - Pig Up a Rope

Don't ask me how he got up there. Just be glad that he did.

In all seriousness, just looking at this made me chuckle to think about the "WTF?!?" moment that bird must be having. I know you all must think I'm cracked, but I don't care - this illustration is absolutely hilarious to me.

Pig Post - Mud

I was coming up blank on a pig illustration idea, so I just made one in the mud. He's blowing bubbles, and he is happy.

Employees Only - Getting Darker

Thanks for being patient with me getting yesterday's (now today's) comic out - it's been a little difficult to tear myself away from life, and lately the news from Japan. Be sure to donate to the Red Cross's efforts in Japan if you can - they definitely need our help.

Today's comic is all about the latest version of Spore, called Darkspore. I'm told it's actually very good, but a little part of me can't help but wonder if the lesson learned is that games need to take similar paths to ultimately be successful. I'm sure that's me mostly over generalizing the gaming industry, but you have to admit the majority of popular games right now aren't exactly "E" for everyone.

I'm as much to blame as anyone - the comic above is obviously me kidding around, but if it came down to it, I'd actually be interested in playing a violent version of Animal Crossing. Add zombies and bullet time and I may even wait in line for it!

Comic Strip Delayed!

I tried, but failed to get the comic done on time today. I'm super sorry guys, but I have to take off for my other job.

I'll try my best to get the comic finished up after I get home, so look for it tomorrow morning!

Pig Post - Little Red Wagon

I don't watercolor often (which is probably evident) but I do enjoy it when I get the chance to sit down and work in the medium. There really isn't much else to say about the illustration itself -it's just a pig in a wagon hoping to get pulled...

Ooh! Pulled pork! Ha!

I hope you enjoy today's pig, and I'll see you Thursday!

Employees Only - A Foot Long Awesome on Wheat

The sad fact is that this conversation actually took place.

I'm not sure how exciting making sandwiches can be, but actually eating them is much better in my opinion. Therefore, if the people at Subway want to really make a big impression on me, work harder on getting a tasty sub into my hands quickly and cheaply. Nothing else is really required of you - you could be doing cartwheels across the sneeze guard and all I'd be thinking is, "this is delaying my sandwich."

Thus ends my two comic series detailing Subway shenanigans. Oh, just in case...if anyone at Subway ever comes across this, please consider making a new sandwich called "The Awesome". Assuming your employees can contain their exuberance at the mere thought of such a delicacy; it will sell. Trust me.

Pig Post - Diner

It's interesting to see the evolution of these illustrations, since I'm not really starting out with involved sketches I find out what they look like pretty much when I'm done. This guy sort of has a nice logo/T-shirt feel to it, so I'm pretty happy with it.

That's today's offering though - see you Thursday!
